A ‘vision’ map showing possible or potential, not definite nor agreed, medium to large growing sites in Hackney. Sites may be decided to have other priorities or be too contaminated in the long run but this map is simply to show possibilities. Sites include private, council and other. There will be many other smaller sites.

Why does Hackney need more growing sites?

Hackney has very high levels of food poverty
significant numbers of people have no gardens nor space for growing,
we are in a climate emergency where low carbon food production, as urban food growing is, is essential
the UK has very low food resilience due to dependance on food and fertiliser imports. Increasing urban food growing significantly is key to increasing resilience.
